Bnei Mitzvah Programme
B’nei Mitzvah sits at the heart of our community. We have celebrated many of our young people reaching this important Jewish milestone at special Shabbat services, each one tailored by the host family, for their child, with the full support of the community.
Our goal is to capture the essence of the child and bring together a meaningful process that reflects his or her jewish identity. Each event is a unique, warm and spiritual occasion, bringing the joy of a family-orientated celebration to the heart of our intimate community.
Our concept is not just to focus on the day itself - important as it is! - but to see it as a key moment in their own awakening and ownership of their Judaism. Each B’Mitzvah student is, afterall, embarking on their journey to jewish adulthood and is supported to see the promise and potential of their new role in shaping our ancient tradition.
A young person’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah at the Havurah is also not just about them, but can be about their whole family. Throughout the process and on the day itself, we seek to recognise the significance of the event for the whole extended family, encouraging everyone from siblings to parents and grandparents to take an active part in this special milestone.
If you are looking for a place for your bar- or bat-mitzvah, where agility, creativity and meaning meets traditional Masorti values, please get in touch with our Bnei-Mitzvah coordinator, Briony.
Your Bar or Bat Mitzvah at Havurah can be exactly what you want it to be.
The Programme
Our exciting new two-year programme, in collaboration with other small Masorti communities, meets monthly to explore a varied curriculum building Jewish knowledge and enjoying outdoor activities and social gatherings.
The sessions will be enjoyable and engaging, allowing kids to build relationships with each other and create a cohort within the Havurah community, whilst also forging connections with young people from other communities; all whilst developing and strengthening their own Jewish identities.
